Pertzye Side Effects

It is possible for people who are taking Pertzye to develop side effects like diarrhea, coughing, and heartburn. Although most reactions to this prescription medicine tend to be minor, serious problems can also occur. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience difficulty breathing, trouble passing stool, or mouth irritation.

An Introduction to Pertzye Side Effects

Just like any medicine, Pertzye® (pancrelipase) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If adverse reactions do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Pertzye. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list with you.)

Common Side Effects With Pertzye

Pertzye has been studied extensively in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occurred in a group of people taking the drug were carefully documented and compared to those that occurred in a group of people taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredient). As a result, it was possible to see what side effects occurred, how often they appeared, and how they compared to the placebo.
In clinical studies, the most common Pertzye side effects included:
  • Diarrhea -- in up to 10 percent of people
  • Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 10 percent
  • Cough -- up to 10 percent.
