CF Carrier Testing

You may want to check to see if you are a cystic fibrosis carrier if you:

  • Have a family history of cystic fibrosis
  • Are a partner of someone with CF
  • Are planning on becoming pregnant.

A genetics counselor at your local hospital can take a blood or saliva sample to see if it contains the abnormal CFTR gene that causes cystic fibrosis. The blood or saliva sample will detect 9 out of 10 cases. Some insurance plans cover this testing.
