Cayston Inhaled Therapy Information

When used for treating a certain bacterial infection in those with cystic fibrosis, Cayston® (aztreonam for inhalation solution) works by interfering with bacteria's ability to grow and multiply. This prescription medicine is specifically approved for treating a Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in adults and children as young as seven years old.

Cayston comes as a powder that is mixed with saline and inhaled into the lungs using a nebulizer. The dosing guidelines for this type of therapy call for the drug to be inhaled three times daily for 28 days. You will then have a 28-day break from the medicine before resuming your next 28-day treatment cycle. Your healthcare provider will let you know how many cycles you need to have.
